NBA Usage Rate Leaders: who carries the offense

Season 2025-26 (the current season has no player with enough games yet). Games with 10+ minutes; minimum 10 games.

Usage rate (USG%) is the share of a team's possessions a player finishes while on the floor: field-goal attempts, free-throw trips and turnovers, adjusted for his minutes. 20% is an average starter; above 30% the offense runs through him. It is the single best predictor of how many shots a player will take, which is why every points, assists and PRA prop starts there.

USG% = season average; L10 = last ten games, so a rising L10 flags a bigger role (an injured teammate, a trade). Click a header to sort.

L10 in green is at least 2 points above the season figure (a growing role); in red, at least 2 below.

How the table is built

  1. Every box score of the season is included when the player logged 10 or more minutes; a 2-minute garbage-time stint would distort the average either way.
  2. USG% is averaged over those games, and separately over the ten most recent ones, so the trend column reflects the current role rather than the October one.
  3. A player needs at least 10 qualifying games to appear. At the start of a season nobody qualifies yet, so the page shows the previous season, clearly labelled, until the new one has enough games.

Frequently asked questions

What is usage rate in the NBA?

The percentage of a team's possessions a player uses while he is on the court, counting field-goal attempts, free-throw possessions and turnovers, adjusted for minutes. League average is 20% by construction; stars run 30% and above.

Who leads the NBA in usage rate?

The table above lists the top 50 for the season shown, with the last-10 trend next to the season figure. It refreshes every morning after the previous night's box scores.

Why does usage matter for player props?

Because shots, free throws and assists all scale with possessions used. A player at 32% usage with a stable role has a narrow points distribution; a player whose L10 usage just jumped is the one the market prices late.

Why 10 minutes and 10 games?

Below 10 minutes the rate is noise; below 10 games the season average is not yet a role. The thresholds keep every row on a real sample.

How does PropLab use it?

Usage rate is a sub-metric of the Player Profile block (25% of every pick's score) together with season averages, recent form, consistency and minutes stability. The Synergy block adds the usage shift when a key teammate is out.
