NBA Defense vs Position: what every team allows to guards, forwards and centers
Ratios versus league average, 2025-26 season, computed from the box scores up to Sep 14.
Defense vs position (DvP) measures how much a team allows to opposing players of a given position compared with the league average. A ratio of 1.00 is exactly average; 1.08 means the defense concedes 8% more of that stat to that position; 0.92 means 8% less. PropLab computes it from every box score of the season (players with 5+ minutes), grouped by the opponent's position group, and feeds it into the Matchup block (20% of every pick's score).
Above 1.05 = soft matchup for that group (lean Over); below 0.95 = tough matchup (lean Under). Click a column header to sort; the worst defense for that stat comes first.

PropLab groups by G / F / C rather than the five positions: it is the granularity the model actually scores with, and it keeps each cell on a sample large enough to mean something early in the season. Rotations blur PG/SG and SF/PF lines anyway.
How the table is built
- Every box score of the season is joined to the player's position; a player's line counts against the team he played, not the team he plays for.
- For each defense and each position group the per-game points, rebounds and assists allowed are averaged and divided by the league average for that group, so the ratio is comparable across teams and across seasons.
- The table refreshes every morning with the previous night's box scores. The date in the title is the last game included.

Because that is what the model scores with, and because five-position splits get thin early in the season and noisy with modern positionless rotations. Three groups keep every cell on a real sample.
How often is it updated?
Every morning, after the previous night's box scores are ingested. The date next to the title is the last game included.
